Lifestyle and Portrait Photography

With the weather gradually improving (albeit changing it’s mind from day to day) and also with holidays approaching, now is a great time to plan a lifestyle and portrait photography session. As a photographer, I thoroughly enjoy these sessions, we have lots of fun, they are unhurried and we create some fantastic images! The children don’t really realise they are having their photograph taken or if they do they are relaxed and happy to let me! Often where I hold the shoots there are ducks and chickens for the children to chase, trees to hide behind, fences to climb so there is lots to keep the kids entertained for a couple of hours.

Nottinghamshire Landscapes

I don’t do enough ‘non-commissioned’ photography for my liking but have promised myself I will do more this year.

Although Nottinghamshire isn’t renowned for it’s dramatic landscapes, I think there are parts of the region that at certain times of year are fantastic. Here are a couple of simple images taken on the River Trent a few Sundays ago.

Break with traditional timings?

I recently came across an article by the London based wedding planner, Zoe Lingard.

In the article, Zoe considers the benefits of scheduling some of the wedding photography to before the ceremony, as per many wedding events in the US. There are numerous advantages to this, but clearly the main thing that would have to change is that the first meeting between the Bride and Groom would not be at the start of the ceremony in front of everybody, but instead at prior to the ceremony, possibly in a private meeting as often happens in the US.

I have to say, although I understand all of the traditions that exist particularly in the UK, I love the idea of a private moment prior to the ceremony. An emotional, tender few moments to spend together and say a few words, something that couples don’t get opportunity to do when they meet right at the start of the ceremony. I’ve seen plenty of images of these private moments taken at US weddings and they can be truly special. I think they could add to the wedding day and certainly not detract anything from the ceremony itself.

Caroline & Simon’s Wedding – January 2009

A trip to the North West (my homeland!) on this particular crisp and sunny Saturday for Caroline & Simon’s wedding. The day was fantastic, lots of laughter and tears, a very emotional day! Caroline & Simon are a lovely, fun, down to earth couple and there were some lovely personal things from the day.
Here are a few of my favourite images..

The rings – Simon hadn’t planned to have a ring but Caroline surprised him and had four Grandparents wedding rings melted and formed into one………

Simon’s cufflinks – although being a Northwest lad, Simon has been a lifelong West Ham fan, hence the claret & blue. All the guys wore either a claret or blue pair of cufflinks. There is an incredibly moving background story as to why Simon wore a mis-matched pair but I won’t share it here……

Caroline & Ian’s Wedding – December 2008

Okay so my blog needs a bit of TLC after being ignored for a few weeks, so I thought I’d add some updates of recent weddings.
Here are a few of my favourite images from Caroline & Ian’s wedding at Hemswell Court in Lincolnshire a few days before Christmas. It was a fantastic day, the ceremony was candle-lit and very atmospheric, Caroline had done a great job with the details on the tables for the meal and they braved the chilly weather for some dusk video-light shots!

Wedding Show – Goosedale – Sunday 8 February

Just to let you know that I’ll be exhibiting at the Wedding Show at Goosedale(near Papplewick) in Nottinghamshire this Sunday. The show is open from 11 am until 4pm, admission is £2.50 and there will be fashion shows during the day.
